1 - Arrival
You'll arrive from the entrance in the wrecked house at this location.
2 - Lothar
If you had Morte in your party and he was kidnapped when you entered the Lower Ward, then Lothar, the man responsible, will appear before you within this room. To get any information out of him, or to release Morte, he will ask that you head to the
Drowned Nations, and upon your return he will ask for a skull (not just any skull, something more eccentric). You can provide Hargrimm's, Soego's, Stale Mary's, or the Silent King's skull from the Dead Nations or the wererat Mantuok's skull from the level below. To access the level below, simply move the couch (at least it looks like a couch) at area #2 to uncover a ladder down to area #5.
Once you bring Lothar back one of the skulls, he will release Morte and you'll be able to get some useful information out of him. You're also able to purchase some equipment from him, which you'll find in the table below.
3 - Staircase
This spiraling staircase leads up to Lothar's room at area #4.
4 - Lothar's Sanctum
Ascending the stairs at area #3, you'll find yourself in Lothar's personal chamber. Lothar may be here when you come back to bring him the skull (see area #2 for more information).
5 - Lower Level
This is where you'll find yourself after descending the ladder at area #2.
6 - Mantuok
You'll encounter the wererat Mantuok here (the same Mantuok you met down in the
Warrens of Thought). If you have a skull in your possession for Lothar, Mantuok will demand that you hand it over to him so that he might give it to Lothar (thus claiming any reward). A fight erupts and you'll be forced to slay Mantuok and his wererat pals.
Once dead, search Mantuok's corpse for his skull (which you can give to Lothar) and the Grimoire of Pestilential Thought. This is a pretty interesting item and the source of a few quests. If you speak to it, the Grimoire will convince you to perform evil deeds to gain power. First, you can pour your blood on it for a Blindness scroll. Next, you'll have to sell one of the NPCs in your party to Vrischika at the Curiosity Shoppe in the
Clerk's Ward (which will get you a scroll of Adder's Kiss). Lastly, you can kill one of the NPCs in your party for a scroll of Power Word: Kill. Keep in mind, however, that your alignment will change to evil as you commit these deeds.
7 - Exit
This exit leads to the
Weeping Stone Catacombs.
