Ragpicker's Square (AR0101)

Did we miss anything on this map? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

1 - Marrow-Fiend

A collector named Marrow-Fiend will be standing here. He will think that you are dead and want to take a bite out of you. Offer to let him take a bite in exchange for a finger-bone that is around his neck. He will agree and remove a chunk of flesh from your body (nasty). Once you have the finger-bone, you can remove your own finger and replace it with the new one to become the proud owner of Mempa's Biting Ring.

You can also open the portal behind Marrow-Fiend leading into a trapped house. A man by the name of Vlask will appear and you'll be forced to kill him for the Portal Key needed to exit the area.

2 - Yellow Fingers

Another collector by the name of Yellow Fingers will be walking near this location. If you have Morte in your party, Yellow Fingers will accuse you of stealing the skull from him. You can either kill the collector or pay for Morte (5 coppers will do the trick).

If you finish your dealings with Yellow Fingers on good terms, the collector will attempt to pick your pocket, although you won't notice it unless you have an intelligence of 12+. If you catch him, you can study his technique for 200 experience points and a +1 bonus to your pickpocket skill. With a dexterity of 12+, you can grab his hand before he gets away and teach him a lesson for stealing from an immortal.

3 - Sharegrave's Guildhouse

Outside the guildhouse, you will encounter a thief by the name of Ratbone. If you want, you can have Ratbone train you as a thief. Doing so earns you experience based on your dexterity: 2500 experience points for a dexterity of 9-11, 3125 experience points for a dexterity of 13-15, 3438 experience points for a dexterity of 16-17, and 3750 experience points for a dexterity of 18+.

Once you're finished with Ratbone, head into the guildhouse. Sharegrave will tell you that Pharod is collecting a lot of bodies and wants you to investigate. If you agree to help him for free, your alignment will shift further toward good. If you demand money for your service, your alignment will shift further toward evil. Once you find out where the corpses are coming from, return to Sharegrave for 750 experience points.

4 - Nodd

Once again, you'll run into a collector here. His name is Nodd and he will ask for you to find his sister Amarysse and tell her that he is alright. To do so, head to the southeast portion of the Hive, where you'll find Amarysse near the Smoldering Corpse Bar. Tell her about Nodd and she will send you back to him with 100 copper. You'll receive 750 experience points for giving Nodd the money.

5 - Jarym

This kip is home to a man named Jarym. Jarym will ask that you find a ruby for him, which can only be retrieved if you have accepted the box from Mar in the northwest portion of the Hive. Once you've had the box taken care of by Aola in the Alley of Dangerous Angles, you can buy the ruby from him for 300 copper and bring it back here to Jarym. You will receive 200 copper and 500 experience points for completing this quest.

6 - Mebbeth's Hut

Mebbeth is an old lady that sells a few charms, but she's also capable of training you as a mage. If you express interest in becoming a mage, Mebbeth will first send you on a few errands.

To start off, she will give you a seed that you must take to the marketplace in the southwest portion of the Hive and give it to the merchant that sells fruit. Next, you'll need to head to the southeast portion of the Hive and, with Mourns-for-Trees' help, make the seed grow. Bring the seed back to Mebbeth and she'll have you remove its barbs and construct a frame. After that, Mebbeth will send you back to the marketplace to retrieve her wash from the merchant named Giscorl.

Once you've completed that task, you'll be off to Kossah-Jai, another merchant in the marketplace, to get some ink. Kossah-Jai will lead you to Meir'am, who actually has the ink. Buy a tankard from the marketplace to carry the ink and you'll finally have pleased Mebbeth when you return. You'll gain 1000 experience points for bringing back the ink, but if your wisdom or intelligence is above 13, you can gain another 2000 experience points for understanding the purpose of Mebbeth's errands. You'll also receive some Amber Earrings and three spells in the form of recipes, Recipe: Blood Bridge, Recipe: Chromatic Orb, and Recipe: Identify (all scribed on the frame with the ink you fetched).

At this point, you can purchase additional items from Mebbeth. Refer to the table below for a full list of what you can buy.

7 - Junk Portal

To open the portal here (and gain access to area #8), you will need a piece of "junk". You only need to have it in your inventory and a dialogue box to use it will appear when you are in the vicinity.

8 - Exit

Once you have used the junk at area #7, you will be able to head through this entrance to the Trash Warrens, which brings you one step closer to Pharod.
