Ravel's Maze (AR0610)

Did we miss anything on this map? Is there something we didn't discover? Let us know!

1 - Arrival

You'll initially enter Ravel's Maze here, having used the unfolding portal and the handkerchief with Kesai-Serris' blood. You must make your way to area #2 to actually talk with Ravel, but along the way you'll have to fight plenty of Trigits, which are a sort of barbed plant creature.

2 - Ravel Puzzlewell

Ravel offers the most rewarding and informative dialogue in the game, so pay attention to everything she has to say. In order to receive a large experience point and wisdom bonus at the end of the conversation, you must treat her with respect and be as kind to her as possible. Whatever you do, do not provoke combat (until the very end, when it's inevitable) or you will miss out on these bonuses. Striking up the initial conversation with Ravel will earn you 90,000 experience points.

Your dialogue options are largely influenced by your charisma, with an attribute score of 13+ getting you better options and an attribute score of 16+ getting even more. Throughout the conversation, flatter Ravel with any options that tell her she's beautiful, that you could never forget about her, and that your absence up until now was simply because the way to her was so difficult. The kinder you are, the higher the bonus is when you're finished with her.

Toward the end of the conversation, Ravel will ask you the now infamous Planescape: Torment line, "What can change the nature of a man?" It really doesn't matter how you answer this, as Ravel is only concerned with your answer rather than what is necessarily the right answer. After that, quiz Ravel about your mortality to learn that an Angel named Trias that would know more about what it is you seek. This will earn you 180,000 experience points.

When you inquire about the other forms Ravel has taken, she will reveal that she was Ei-Vene on the second floor of the Mortuary, Mebbeth in Ragpicker's Square, and Marta in the Buried Village. Inquire about Ei-Vene in a nice way and Ravel will work on you once again, granting you another +3 bonus to your max hit points. Inquire about Mebbeth in a nice way and you'll be awarded 90,000 experience points and a +1 bonus to your wisdom. Finally, inquire about Marta in a nice way and you'll receive the Intestinal Phylactery.

If you have a charisma or intelligence of 16+, you can ask her why she tried to free the Lady of Pain from Sigil and she will proclaim that she wants to see all living things free, and that is why she freed you from your mortality. She'll then give you a piece of her hair, which can be used to open a portal at area #3. This will earn you another 90,000 experience points.

At this point, you can ask Ravel to teach you magic if you're a mage or if you have a charisma of 13+. This will earn you more experience and some helpful aids, depending on your intelligence score: an intelligence of 11 gets you 30,000 experience points and one Black-Barbed Seed, an intelligence of 12-16 gets you 60,000 experience points and a handful of Black-Barbed Seeds, an intelligence of 17+ gets you 90,000 experience points, six Black-Barbed Seeds, and a Black-Barbed Charm. However, if you've already obtained a level 7 specialization bonus as a mage, you will automatically receive the 90,000 experience point amount, six Black-Barbed Seeds, and a Black-Barbed Charm. If you've also obtained the level 12 specialization bonus as a mage, then the experience point bonus will be increased to 120,000.

Your conversation with Ravel is finally coming to a close, but not without a final boon from Ravel. The boon you receive is completely dependant upon how kind you were during the conversation: at least one kind answer gets you 90,000 experience points and a +1 bonus to your wisdom, several kind answers gets you 120,000 experience points and a +1 bonus to your wisdom, and taking advantage of all kind answers gets you a massive 180,000 experience points and a +2 bonus to your wisdom.

Regardless of how kind you were, however, Ravel will not let you leave the maze and a battle will take place. Kill her and the Trigits she summons, then loot The Fiendish Eye of Kalem'Dar, Ravel's Fingernail, scroll of Blacksphere, Black-Barbed Necklaces, and Heart Charms from her corpse. Afterwards, shadows will have entered the maze, so make haste to either area #3 or the exit at area #4.

3 - Black-Barbed Wands

If you have a piece of Ravel's hair from area #2, you will be prompted when you walk underneath this overhang. Using the hair, you can open a portal to a small room with some brambles. If you have any Black-Barbed Seeds, you can use them to create Black-Barbed Wands. If your intelligence is 9-15, the wands will contain nine charges. With an intelligence of 16+, the wands will contain thirty-three charges. If Ravel taught you "the Art", though, these amounts will be increased to sixty-six charges and ninety-nine charges, respectively.

4 - Exit

This exit leads to the city of Curst.
